Why does the sky scan show a different number from the UV index?
They measure different things. The UV index on the main screen is the all-sky forecast for your area. The sky scan starts from the clear-sky value and reduces it by the cloud cover your camera actually sees, which is why it is usually lower and more local.
The scan says 100% cloud but the sky is clear.
Point the camera at open sky, away from buildings, trees and the horizon — anything that is not sky reads as cloud. Also make sure the sun itself is out of frame, both for accuracy and for your eyes.
My skin type looks wrong.
Skin-tone estimation is sensitive to lighting. Retake the photo in even, indirect daylight, with your inner forearm filling the frame and no shadow across it. Avoid coloured indoor lighting, which shifts the colour the camera records.
Why does it need my location?
To look up the UV forecast where you are. It requests coarse accuracy only, and the request carries no identifier. See the privacy policy.
Do my photos get uploaded?
No. Sky frames are analysed in memory and never saved. The forearm photo is deleted immediately after its colour is measured. Neither is ever transmitted.
How do I delete my data?
Clear the app's storage in your device settings, or uninstall the app. Everything is held locally, so that removes all of it.
Is it really free?
Yes, and it will stay that way. There is no paid tier. The app is supported by modest advertising and disclosed product suggestions.
